These are single-brand reviews for the names people actually search — goodr, Knockaround, Meller. We’re independent, so a review here isn’t a brand talking about itself: it’s a plain read of what the brand makes, what it’s built from, who it genuinely suits, and where it sits against real acetate. When a brand’s frames are polycarbonate rather than acetate, we say so up front rather than burying it.

Each review is honest about the trade-offs, because that’s the only kind worth reading. A $30 running frame and a $130 bio-acetate frame are answering different questions — our job is to tell you which question each brand actually answers, so you don’t buy the wrong tool for the job.

How we assess a brand we haven’t lab-tested

We don’t own a test lab, and we don’t pretend to. What we do is read each brand’s published specs and materials, cross-check the marketing against what the frames are actually made of, and reason about who the fit and price suit. Where a brand publishes a frame material, lens rating or measurement, we cite it; where it doesn’t, we say “not published” rather than guessing. It’s the same transparent method we apply to every pick on the site.

Why some of these brands aren’t acetate — and that’s fine

An acetate specialist reviewing goodr might seem odd, until you remember that readers search these brands by the thousand and deserve an honest answer. goodr and Knockaround make excellent value polycarbonate frames; Meller makes bio-acetate. We’ll tell you exactly what each is and when it’s the right buy — sometimes that’s instead of an acetate frame, not alongside one.

What a good verdict includes

Every review ends the same way a pick does: with a clear “who this is for” and a “who should skip it.” A brand being popular doesn’t make it right for you, and a brand being cheap doesn’t make it a compromise. The verdict is what you came for, so we lead with it.

Are goodr sunglasses acetate?

No. goodr frames are a grippy polycarbonate designed for running and active use, not cellulose acetate. That's not a criticism — they're excellent value sport frames — but if you specifically want acetate, goodr isn't it. Our goodr review covers who they suit.

Is Knockaround good quality?

For the price, yes. Knockaround makes genuinely polarized, UV400 polycarbonate frames for around $30–$40. They're near-disposable in the best way — great for the beach, festivals or a glovebox pair. They're not acetate and won't have the heft or finish of one, which is the honest distinction.

Is Meller bio-acetate really sustainable?

Meller uses bio-based acetate, which replaces fossil-derived plasticizers with plant-based ones and is genuinely a step up from standard acetate. But 'biodegradable' still requires industrial composting — it won't break down in a landfill. It's a real improvement, honestly presented, not a magic fix.

Do you get paid to write positive reviews?
